It is known for its lush vegetation, rich culture and diverse ethnic groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Location and size<\/b><br \/><span>Manipur is located in north-eastern India and is the fourth smallest of the seven states in the region. It has an area of around 22,300 square kilometers and is therefore roughly the size of a bit larger than half of Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Geography<\/b><br \/><span>Manipur is a hilly state with an average altitude of around 750 meters. The foothills of the Himalayas lie to the north and east of the state, while the Indo-Gangetic Plain extends to the south and west.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Climate<\/b><br \/><span>The climate in Manipur is tropical. The monsoon season lasts from June to September and brings plenty of rainfall. The average annual temperature is around 24 degrees Celsius.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Population<\/b><br \/><span>The population of Manipur is around 2.8 million people. The largest ethnic group is the Meiteis, who make up around 60% of the population.
