Tour description

With a little weather luck, the approach to Paro in western Bhutan already shows what makes the famous Snow Man Trek so appealing for passionate tours: the high mountain panorama of the Himalayas captivates with its powerful beauty and creates a deep desire to experience this mountain world for yourself with all your senses. The kingdom of Bhutan, which is not quite 40,000 kmĀ² in size, lies between northeast India and Tibet (China), which is why it has connected important trade routes for centuries.

In the past, the people of the kingdom were members of the “Laya”, a semi-nomadic tribe living here whose name also means “snow”. They transported goods of all kinds over peaks and through valleys. On this trek, we will follow part of their route, which includes crossing eight of the highest passes in the world. After an initial acclimatization phase, which will also give us the opportunity to visit important sights, the Snow Man Trek finally starts on day three of our stay, which will take us over a total of eleven passes and up to a maximum altitude of 5,200 m above sea level in 24 days. Fitness and good health are basic requirements for this trek.

Overcoming the physical challenges of this trek will be rewarded with the experience of unique mountain panoramas, untouched forest landscapes, crystal-clear mountain lakes and mystical waterfalls. We will have the chance to observe some very rare animal species such as blue sheep (bharal) or snow leopards, as well as meeting the inhabitants of this peaceful kingdom, where “breeding national happiness” is placed above economic growth.
